Nevada Statewide Youth Activist Retreat
Advocates for Youth will be hosting a statewide youth activist retreat in Nevada from November 15th-18th. The purpose of this retreat will be to connect, strengthen, and support progressive youth leaders across the state.
This coalition of youth leaders will work to create a statewide strategy to engage and build a base of young people across the region who are ready to advocate around issues such as LGBTQ health and rights, racial justice, abortion, immigration, gun violence prevention, comprehensive sex education and more.
With the support of the Advocates for Youth policy team, the retreat will culminate with a youth policy platform created by and for young people in Nevada. This policy platform will be unveiled and disseminated during the 2019 legislative session, in conjunction with a lobby day and briefing. The youth policy platform will also be used as an organizing tool to bring in young people across Nevada who see themselves reflected in these policy priorities.
The coalition will share the work each of their individual communities and organizations are participating in throughout the year, receive newsletters, participate in monthly calls, and receive support detailed below from Advocates for Youth.
The time commitment for the coalition is from November 2018 - June 2019. Outside of periodic special events, the monthly time commitment should range from 10-20 hours.
Each coalition member will receive a stipend for their participation.
Coalition members will receive trainings and webinars as requested, mobilization, communications/outreach, logistical, and policy support. Advocates for Youth will serve as a liaison between all participating organizations and members - compiling a comprehensive calendar of the coalitions individual events, newsletters, scheduling meeting times, and coordinating logistics for any coalition events or summits.
