2018 Student Organizing Team Application

Applications are due May 1st, 2018!

Do you want to learn how to:

*Fight racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, classism and other forms of oppression?
*Make policy changes at your school by planning and leading an issue-based campaign for change?
*Build the power of young people in your community?

If the answer to these questions is yes, you should join Advocates for Youth’s Student Organizing Team! If selected for this paid opportunity, you will receive training and resources throughout the school year to lead a local advocacy campaign to change your community to better support the sexual and reproductive health and rights of young people.

In this last year alone, members of our Student Organizing Team have organized successfully for:
•Free condoms on campus
•Their college to provide resources to LBGTQ students
•Gender neutral restrooms in university buildings
•A women's resource center on campus

These are just some examples of how through the Student Organizing Team, Advocates for Youth partners with students across the country to fight for the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of young people. Members of the Student Organizing Team serve as organizers and advocates on one or more of the following issues: Condom/Contraceptive Access, LGBTQ Rights, Comprehensive Sex Education, Abortion Access, and HIV Prevention, Treatment and Care for Young People, Reproductive Justice, and Gender Based Violence.

Advocates for Youth provides Student Organizers with advocacy and media training, ongoing technical support, and a stipend each semester. Preference will be given to applicants who are associated with a student group or local organization and will have the opportunity to send up to two representatives to the Urban Retreat (September 20th - 24th), our annual youth organizing conference. Student Organizers will receive a scholarship to cover all costs related to Urban Retreat.

Specific Responsibilities:
• Organizing a campaign for change at your school and/or community
• Participating in monthly one-on-one check-ins with Advocates for Youth staff
• Participating in Advocates for Youth’s national campaigns
• Submitting a monthly report

• Available to attend and fully participate in the Urban Retreat on September 20th-24th
